Get in Touch with Your Health
Being a caregiver can sometimes mean that your own health is something you totally overlook. The most basic self-care involves getting back in touch with your own health. If you haven’t been to your doctor in a while, make an appointment. You might need to start out with a general physical unless there’s something in particular that you know is a problem for you.
Making something is another tremendous form of caring for yourself. If you already have a hobby or artistic talent that you enjoy, make the time to indulge in that hobby more often. Even if you don’t already have a specific hobby that you love, you can still make something. Whether you pain, play with clay, or color in a coloring book, taking the time to create is going to pay off for you.
Do Something You’ve Always Wanted to Do
What have you always wanted to do but never made time to do? Flotation tanks, where you float in a saltwater solution for an hour or so, are a popular relaxation technique. If you’ve never had a massage, that might be a good way to soothe sore muscles and to help you to learn to relax a little more. Consider a variety of different options and maybe make a goal to try something new every month or so.
Self-care as a caregiver doesn’t have to be complicated at all. But you do need to get in touch with yourself and with what you need as a person. When you focus on yourself for a while, it makes focusing on other people a lot easier to do.
